Unstoppable Voters protects the U.S. freedom to vote with creativity and innovation

What is Unstoppable Voters?

Every voter’s voice must be heard. The freedom to vote in the U.S. has long been under attack and it continues to be. But we know that if we come together in community and bring our full creative selves into our civic engagement work, we can overcome the challenges we face, protect the freedom to vote and our intersectional freedoms, and make the promise of U.S. democracy real for us all.

Through our expansive Unstoppable Voters program, we support creatively risk-taking, strategic, ambitious organizations, people, and projects that protect voters and voting in the U.S. We provide training and community building for individuals and groups who are passionate about protecting the freedom to vote and bringing the needed innovation to that fight. We also provide funding and support to help manifest that innovation and bring real, measurable impact. To date, we’ve helped over 100 organizations and over 1,000 individuals make voting accessible, safe, joyful, powerful, and irresistible.

2024 Unstoppable Voters Fellows

For this supersized election year, we supersized our Fellowship and are supporting a record 15 leading artistic activists across two programs:

These Fellows work at a range of civic engagement and social justice organizations and an array of higher education institutions. Throughout 2024, we’re supporting them with training, mentorship, funding, and more to help their communities get to the polls.

Ways to Win with Unstoppable Voters in 2024

We know we’ll need to bring our all to mobilize millions to the polls this year, to overcome the extreme threats to our fundamental freedoms and make sure we elect leaders who truly represent our values.

So for the 2024 U.S. election cycle, we’re offering our widest range of Unstoppable Voters programming yet, from multi-month Fellowships to month-long bursts of exceptional creativity to bite-size chunks of creative consulting magic and more.

2023 Unstoppable Voters Fellows

We are thrilled to be supporting Caroline, Alejandra, Robin, Sara, Mark, and Anne for our 2023 Unstoppable Voters Fellowship. These voting champions serve communities that are facing some of the steepest barriers to exercising their fundamental freedoms. This year, through workshops, mentorship, and multi-month support, we’ll be providing them singular training to develop and implement ambitious, imaginative, pro-voter activism.

2022 Midterm Election Support

Through our Fellowship and Action Accelerator programs, we supported 14 organizations as they led creative campaigns across the country, helping mobilize nearly 1 million voters.

Project Funding and Support

The reach of Unstoppable Voters

We’ve funded 47 bold, impactful projects that have helped people vote and protected the freedom to vote.

We began in 2020, funding 19 projects in the lead-up to and aftermath of the election, including: Cirque d’Vote, which organized dozens of line-warming circus performances at early voting locations and on Election Day; Float the Vote, which mobilized Detroit food and ice cream trucks to educate people about registration, early voting, and polling locations; Project Your Vote, which projected key voting information and narrative imagery in dozens of cities near voting sites; Fuck Talking, Go Vote, which mobilized diverse cowboys, cowgirls, and cowpokes across the country in 11 rides to ballot boxes before election day; and Delivering Democracy, which put troupes of dancing mailboxes on the ground throughout Pennsylvania to make people excited about voting by mail and dropbox. Read more about the projects we funded in 2020 here and here.

In 2021, we funded 6 projects, including: Song Power For The People, which penned an original pro-voter song and sang it continuously for over 24 hours to put pressing on busting the filibuster and getting national pro-voter standards passed; How’s Your Voice Gonna Matter If You Don’t Vote?, which combined theater, puppets, music, and more to engage youth in Philly and got them registered and ready to (read about its big win for Philly students here); ¿En Serio Loca? ¡VOTA!, which took over Orlando’s October pride to queer the vote and help the QTPOC community counter poll intimidation; and Chase the Erase, a day of raucous street actions featuring drum lines, cheer squads, and lots of chalk to fight for fair districts in Pennsylvania.

In 2022, we supported over a dozen more pro-voter campaigns, including: Apollo 51 Mission to Land a New Star on the Flag, which promoted DC Statehood; Teens March on the Ballot Box, which celebrated hundreds of teens at Philadelphia polling places voting for the first time; Texorcism, which invited participants to a witchy ceremony where they were able to “exorcize” parts of Texas politics they didn’t like; Project Flying Whale, which added whimsy and wonder to Fair Count’s Get Out The Vote bus tours across Georgia; and a Votaco Pledge, which traded delicious tacos for voting pledges.

Feedback from participants

“The training was incredibly inspiring and really showed how you can think outside of the box to accomplish your goals. The trainers were engaging and made the time fly by!”

“This was honest and different. I felt seen, supported and heard the entire time.”

“I learned a lot from the workshop and my peers. I feel like I have a lot of ideas and tools to move forward with!”

“So refreshing and enlightening. I have been feeling lately that as a movement we need to look at different ways to mobilize, inspire, support. These are times requiring “new” approaches to what have been lifelong struggles for marginalized groups. We cannot continue to utilize the same strategies and tactics that may have worked in the past.”

Additional Training

Our first Unstoppable Voters Workshop was a three-session, online workshop where participants from across the country learned all about creative activism and refined ideas for creative, pro-voter projects. Great for staff and volunteers at voter advocacy organizations, for artists, advocates, activists, creative people, and more. This was a chance to experience our popular Creative Activism Academy training that we’ve been honing for 13+ years in workshops around the world — and immediately apply it to protecting the freedom to vote.

We held our first workshop in June 2021 for 60 participants, who were in 17 states with deep connections to 10 more plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Half of the participants came from arts backgrounds, half had more activist backgrounds. Many of them went on to develop inspiring project ideas that we supported with additional funding, training, and mentorship.

We continue to offer general trainings through myriad programs, online and in-person. Read more about our online Learning Labs here and about our topic-specific Unstoppable Voters workshops above.
