All about the Voter Concierge Corps

Imagine this…

It’s Election Day and – against all the forces working to prevent you from being there – you’ve made it into the voting booth. You have your ballot and it has the races everyone is talking about: U.S. President, federal congresspeople, state governor. But there are tons of other contests, too: county register of deeds? Public service president? Beach commissioner? And Bond Proposal Question 2 barely makes sense.

What do you do?

You fill in every part of your ballot exactly as you planned, with confidence, clarity, and ease — because earlier in the week you had a magical session with a Voter Concierge.

Your time with the concierge was easy. They were upbeat and genuinely excited for you to vote. You, of course, learned when and where to vote, but you also received tailored information about the down ballot candidates and issues so you could make informed decisions. You even posted your custom-made voter guide on social media, which inspired your friends to join you in voting today!

Whether it’s banking, healthcare, or education, sometimes we can all use a little help to navigate the system. The Voter Concierge Corps is a fleet of voter champions across the country who personally help people prepare for upcoming elections.

This volunteer Corps is presented by the Center for Artistic Activism and game and experience design studio Playscapades. It was developed in collaboration with Vivian Peng and the League of Women Voters of Florida.

How does it work?

1. The voter fills out a simple form including what they need help with and the issues they care about.

2. The Concierge prepares the voter’s personal voter guide. The Concierge researches everything that will be on the voter’s ballot, organizations that champion the voter’s values, and voting locations and times. They collect all the information in one convenient place.

3. The concierge shares the guide with the voter. Through a video call, text message, email, voice note, or other means that work for the Concierge and voter, the Concierge shares the guide. They help them make a specific plan to vote. They also brainstorm who in their community they can share their guide with to make their “voting dream team.”

4. The voter votes! The concierge follows up, sending voting plan recaps and reminders to share their guide and follow through on their voting plan. The voter votes and is a catalyst for their community voting as well.

The exponential reach of each Voter Concierge

The first iteration of the Voter Concierge Corps ran to great success during the 2022 midterms. Read more about it here.

What does it take to be a concierge?

  • Help voters on your own schedule. You’ll spend about 30-60 min preparing for and then helping each voter.
  • Stay nonpartisan. We’re here to help, not persuade. Concierges help voters understand their own ballots and make their own voices be heard.
  • Get expert training from the Center for Artistic Activism and the Playscpades to get you ready to Concierge. (You can watch a recording if you can’t join live.)
  • Forefront hope, care, and joy. We know this election cycle is a bruising one. The Voter Concierge Corps chooses positivity over negativity, utopia over dystopia, and dancing over disenfranchisement.
