A two-part political imagination workshop series
At the start of the year, we offered Forging Anti-Fascist Futures: A Political Imagination Workshop to dream up a way forward. The workshop filled up almost immediately. Now we’re offering it again — and going deeper with a two-part series:
- Part 1: Future Screenshots | Monday, April 13, 2026 | 12:00-2:00 pm ET
- Part 2: What For? | Monday, April 20, 2026 | 12:00-2:00 pm ET
Developed by Mushon Zer-Aviv, Future Screenshots is a method to challenge the present, stretch our political imagination, and inspire co-resistance and transformative activism.

Part 1: Future Screenshots

What if you could design “screenshots” from futures that don’t exist yet — and use them to clarify what’s possible right now? What if we used imagined futures to stretch our political imagination, clarify what’s possible, and build stronger solidarity in the present?
The examples in this workshop are fictional. Future Screenshots are imagined artifacts from possible futures, designed as if they appeared on someone’s screen.
The methodology is simple: envision a future, imagine it appearing on someone’s screen, and choose one of many screenshot templates to sketch it. A Future Screenshot might look like a chat, a map, a headline, or an AI prompt–offering a glimpse of a future that’s probable, possible, or even preposterous.
What we’ll do together
In this 2-hour online workshop, we’ll focus primarily on generating and mapping screenshots:
- Generate multiple Future Screenshots (hopeful, dreadful, and everything in between)
- Map them on the online Futures Cone (from probable to possible to preposterous)
- Notice how people react to different futures, and what those reactions reveal
- Briefly bridge back to the present (with the possibility of a future follow-up for deeper strategy work)
Please note: This is a free workshop with limited seats, so participation requires a short application process and a commitment of your time and attention. Live attendance is necessary, as these sessions are highly interactive and personalized. Unlike our other public events, this one won’t be available via recording.
We encourage participants who would like to attend Part 1 to apply with their team members, as Part 2 will be for teams working on shared projects.

Part 2: What For? Applying Future Screenshots to Strategic Action

What if the futures you imagined could tell you exactly where to focus your energy right now? What if your team could move from scattered ideas to shared strategic direction — in a single session?
Part 2: What For? builds directly on Future Screenshots and is designed for teams already working together on a campaign, project, or initiative. Mushon guides groups through an action-oriented process that moves from imagined futures to concrete questions, prioritized opportunities, and real next steps.

What we’ll do together
The central question running through this 2-hour online workshop is: What for? — not as a challenge, but as a compass. Working from that question, we’ll:
- Generate Future Screenshots of success, failure, the present, and inaction
- Extract “How Might We” questions from those futures and cluster them by theme
- Map priorities along the dimensions of energy and time
- Leave with concrete, actionable next steps for your work
Attendance at Part 1 is required. This session is specifically designed for teams attending together. If you’re working on a project with colleagues or collaborators and want to come out with clearer strategy and direction, this is for you.
The application for What For? will be provided to participants of the Future Screenshots workshop.

This is for advocates, artists, organizers, educators, funders, and anyone who wants to practice political imagination, especially if the present can feel like a closed future.
The thousands of Future Screenshots developed so far don’t just tell stories; they serve as landmarks for political imagination. They define our affordances for action in the present and help us chart a path forward, together.
About the facilitator
Mushon Zer-Aviv is a designer, writer, educator, and activist based in Tel Aviv. His work often involves mapping and way-finding through physical, digital, and political landscapes. Mushon is a board member of the Israeli/Palestinian peace movement A Land For All – Two States, One Homeland. He is a senior faculty member at Shenkar College and an alumnus of Eyebeam – art and technology center in New York.
