Maryam Kazeem

Maryam Kazeem is a writer, producer, and educator based in Lagos. Her creative work has explored documentation, archival fantasies, and resistance, particularly in the context of black women’s activism.

Her work has appeared in Al JazeeraLiterary HubCatapultAnother Gaze, Apogee, and Joyland amongst others. She was a finalist for the African Artists Foundation National Art Competition (2015), where she presented an alternative wall of remembrance for critical moments of women’s protest in Nigeria, and she has received grants and awards from the Goethe Institut, and the California Institute of the Arts.

She recently completed her MFA residency at the California Institute of the Arts as a Truman Capote Fellow where she also taught courses in Black cultural and performance studies.
