In 2022, we led 15 pro-voter artistic activism workshops all across the country

Through our Unstoppable Voters program, we work with organizations and individuals to bring more creativity, innovation, and impact to their vital voting work.

One of the major ways we do this is by leading trainings and workshops that help people develop and implement imaginative campaigns focused on real, measurable results; share and learn best practices from experts and peers; and become part of a close community of organizations nationwide that are pushing the boundaries of what pro-voter activism can be.

In 2022, we held 15 workshops, training 348 people across 38 organizations in 26 states. We were able to conduct many of these trainings in-person — for the first time in the program’s history! — enabling us to travel the country and get on the ground to help voting champions, young and old, novices and veterans, working on a wide range of pro-voter issues.

In May 2022, we led an artistic activism Unstoppable Voters workshop in Orlando, to help Floridians plan wildly creative actions to get out the vote in their communities.

We led the workshop with all-stars at QLatinx and All Voting is Local, and we worked with leaders at the Florida Immigrant Coalition, RideShare2Vote Aware, VoteRiders, Pineapple Healthcare, Peer Support Space, and the Human Rights Campaign. Participants learned the fundamentals of artistic activism and then prototyped pro-voter artistic activism campaigns: featuring aliens, cats, special queerona virus drinks, and more. Video about the training is coming soon!

Unstoppable Voters: Columbus

A video about our training in Ohio, by Top5ive Photography.

In October 2022, the Unstoppable Voters team went to the Ohio State University in Columbus to lead a training with students and community members about getting out the vote for the 2022 midterm elections.

In partnership with OSU’s Council of Graduate Student Arts & Culture Committee, the Center for Artistic Activism offered a dynamic workshop all about how to use the powers of art and culture to connect with voters in the upcoming election cycle and beyond. Watch the video to see all the creative hijinks that ensued!

Case Study: Vote Neigh

In June, we went to Kansas to lead a workshop with Loud Light and the Kansas Youth Power Coalition, featuring members of key Kansas organizations including the Sunrise Movement, Public Citizen, BE SEEN, the Climate + Energy Project, Chainlink Gallery, and more. The group did an amazing job applying our lessons to their successful, pro-abortion Vote Neigh campaign. Watch the video to learn all about it and how they connected with and mobilized thousands of youth voters.

And so much more

In addition to the trainings detailed above, other highlights include in-person trainings at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin; through the Arena Summit in Austin, Texas; and online with Indivisible, Planned Parenthood, the amazing collection of fair districting champions at the CHARGE Hub, leaders in the fight to make DC our 51st State, and all the members of our major midterm initiatives: our Fellowship and Action Accelerator.

See some feedback from this year’s training participants:

“C4AA matches their high-level expertise in artistry and actions with humor and joy, as well as deep care for each of us as creators. Every Unstoppable Voters training session was designed and infused with their brilliance, so each was simultaneously dynamic and thoughtful, supportive yet provocative, and brimming with encouragement while challenging us to create our best work.”

“Amazing. Although this is called “Artistic Activism,” the focus wasn’t on any art medium in particular, but rather how we can foster and implement creativity into our work. We also developed valuable connections with other participants and the C4AA team.”

“A great, dynamic resource to think outside the box and develop new ways to reach and engage audiences

“A workshop that invites dreaming about challenges that too often stop us cold or put us on autopilot; a workshop that switches you from autopilot to astronaut

“Really fantastic! We are already putting the new skills to work.”

What is Unstoppable Voters?

Through the Center for Artistic Activism’s expansive Unstoppable Voters program, we support creatively risk-taking, strategic, ambitious organizations, people, and projects that address urgent and specific anti-voter attacks. We provide training and community building for individuals and groups who are passionate about protecting the freedom to vote and bringing the needed innovation to that fight. And we provide funding and support to help manifest that innovation and bring real, measurable impact. We’ve helped over 100 organizations and over 1,000 individual activists, artists, and everyone in between make voting accessible, safe, joyful, powerful, and irresistible.
