Join our artistic activism workshop — and make more impactful, innovative, creative voting campaigns!

Just in time for the 2022 midterm elections. Apply below by September 21st.

Wisconsin has very important elections this year — and we know we need to turn out voters in record numbers for them. But we also know that with local, state, and federal governments that feel broken, and with so many competing focuses and needs, it can be hard to reach voters and get them to the polls. To inspire and mobilize these potential voters, we need to try new methods with more creativity and innovation.

And so, from September 27th through 29th, the Center for Artistic Activism and its expert trainers are coming to St. Norbert College to bring the creativity and inspire yours. In partnership with the St. Norbert College Art Department, we’ll be joining Associate Professor Brandon Bauer’s “Art & Creative Democracy” course to offer a dynamic workshop to students — and Brown County community members.

We’ll learn all about artistic activism, and how to use the powers of art and culture to connect with De Pere voters, in this crucial election cycle and beyond.

Fill out the quick application below to join us.

When will the workshop take place?

Tuesday, September 27, from 12-2pm

Thursday, September 29, from 12-2pm

The Center for Artistic Activism will also be available to meet individually with participants following both sessions.

Who should sign up?

  • Voting advocates looking for new ways to reach audiences
  • Organizational leaders looking for new strategies and tactics to achieve objectives
  • Volunteers and anyone looking to get more involved, be inspired, and find ideas for moving forward

What will we do?

  • learn the fundamentals of artistic activism and how to apply them to pro-voter work
  • collaborate intergenerationally to develop creative campaigns in support of Wisconsin voters
  • receive feedback, guidance, and support from the Center for Artistic Activism and peers
  • leave with new, wildly creative, and highly strategic ways to reach voters and achieve pro-voter goals.

Additional details

Through the Unstoppable Voters workshop, community members will collaborate with students to help voters across Brown County.

The program is entirely free to participants. All community members will also receive a free copy of The Art of Activism: Your All-Purpose Guide to Making the Impossible Possible, written by the Center for Artistic Activism’s co-founders. Please read chapters 1, 2, and 6 in advance of the start of the workshop.

The program is a highly-structured, rigorous, and rewarding experience. Attendance at the full program is required.

No previous experience required

You don’t need to be an “Artist.” You don’t need to be an “Activist.” You can be a seasoned advocate, new to this space, a professional creative, or someone who goes into a panic when they have to pick up a marker. No experience is required, beyond an openness to creativity and experimentation.

Additional Programming

Can’t make the full workshop? On Wednesday, September 28, from 1-2pm, the Center for Artistic Activism will be leading an Introduction to Artistic Activism Unstoppable Voters session for the wider St. Norbert community. This is separate from the workshop through the “Art & Creative Democracy” course and will be held on campus in BAC 130.

What is Unstoppable Voters?

Through the Center for Artistic Activism’s expansive Unstoppable Voters program, we support creatively risk-taking, strategic, ambitious organizations, people, and projects that address urgent and specific anti-voter attacks. We provide training and community building for individuals and groups who are passionate about protecting the freedom to vote and bringing the needed innovation to that fight. And we provide funding and support to help manifest that innovation and bring real, measurable impact. To date, we’ve helped over 80 organizations and over 550 individual activists, artists, and everyone in between make voting accessible, safe, joyful, powerful, and irresistible.
